09 Nov 4th Oman Desert Marathon – Before stage 5
Today the runners woke up later and they din’t have to rush their breakfast. All the competitors had plenty of time to eat and get ready before the start. Only the top runners will start the race at 16.30 GMT +4 as they have been qualified as the best 20 in the general ranking. They are (in ranking order): Elmorabity Rachid, Alaqra Salameh, Alsaidi Sami, Glyva Evgenii, Albalushi Mossa, Amdahl Sondre, JIMENEZ LLORENS JUAN MARIA, POLETTI LIONEL, Bassi Nicola, Alsalti Ahmed, Olmo Marco, Spina Marco, Pessina Angelo, Packolet Walter, Elsayed Salah, HUS Jean Francois, Hugo Reinhold, Raji Aziza, Alrawahi khamis, Schotte Sammy.
All the other runners will leave the camp at 14.30 GMY +4, 12 hours time to finish this stage, starting in the hottest hours of the day. They will suffer the extreme heat for the first 3 hours of the race. The marathon stage is easier for its ground conditions but, as is very long, it can be very hard for the slower runners. Yesterday night the Omani runners welcomed all the international runners around the fire for singing and dancing. The traditional music animated the evening and everybody went to bed later than the other days. This moment was a fantastic opportunity for socializing and knowing other people’s traditions. The Oman Desert Marathon is not only running: big part of this experience is a mental challenge and finding new friends means to have more support for face the difficult moments. Today the medical and physio team started to work earlier treating mostly blisters giving physio for muscular cramps: hard work to support all the runners and give them the opportunity to face at best the longest stage of the race. Everything is ready for the start!
